D. Taylor: Boat
Composer: D. Taylor
Period: Contemporary
Length: 3:00
Written during my first semester at university, Boat takes its inspiration from Alfred Wallis' painting of the same name. The piece begins calmly, slowly growing in complexity to a fast, frantic section depicting the boat in stormy waters, before returning to the opening tranquility.
Although short, this piece requires considerable stamina and control of all registers of the instrument, particularly at quieter dynamics. Care should be taken over rhythm and matching articulations in the faster section, and all players should familiarise themselves with all parts to facilitate a clear and confident sense of rhythm throughout.
Line up:
3 trumpets (may be performed on B Flat or C trumpets, whichever the group is most comfortable on).
