Debussy: The Girl With The Flaxen Hair
Composer: Claude Debussy
Period: Early 20th Century
Length: c. 2:20
La Fille aux cheveux de lin (roughly translated The Girl With The Flaxen Hair) is the eighth piece from Debussy's first book of Preludes, written between 1909 and 1910. It requires lyrical playing, good blending of sounds and intonation from all members, and it is recommended that all members study the score for total clarity of the role each part plays.
Line-up:
1st Trumpet in E Flat*
2nd Trumpet in B Flat
French Horn in F
Trombone
Tuba
*If the first trumpet player has access to a 4-valve E Flat trumpet, this is preferable for breadth of sound and ease on the pedal F in bar 15, however the part is perfectly playable on a regular 3-valve trumpet provided the player has good control of the third valve slide.
