One of the many extraordinary arias from Puccini's opera Tosca, this is sung by Tosca herself, asking why God has abandoned her. The 1st trumpet takes the role of Tosca in this arrangement, which requires lyrical playing and a beautiful sound.
 
Note: it may be worth considering performing the 1st trumpet part from offstage, though this will take significant ensemble skills and rehearsal time to perfect.
